Harry Finding His "Whisper"

A story about a Howler Monkey who learned when to be LOUD and when to be soft.

High in the misty mountains of China lived a monkey named Harry.

Harry was special. He was a Young Howler Monkey who had traveled very far from home.

That meant he had a superpower. He was the LOUDEST animal in the whole forest.

When Harry said "Hello," it sounded like a trumpet.

(deep breath)
“HOOO-HOOA-HOOO! HOOO!”

Harry was too loud for his friends.

The golden pheasants flew away in fear.
The red pandas covered their ears.
Even the bamboo stalks seemed to shake.

Pepe the Parrot flew down.

Harry! Stop! My ears are ringing!

Harry looked sad.

But I am a Howler Monkey,” he said.

Loud is what I do. It’s who I am.

Harry felt lonely.

He climbed to a quiet bamboo branch and sat still.

He decided not to speak at all.

The Tiny Sound

While Harry was being quiet, he heard something new.

It wasn't a roar. It wasn't a shout.

(soft sound)
“Mew... mew...”

Harry turned his head. If he had been shouting, he never would have heard it.

He moved the long green leaves gently.

There, tucked inside a hollow log, was a Baby Panda.

The baby was lost. It was too small to shout for its mommy.

Don’t worry,” whispered Harry.

I can help.

Harry looked around.

He needed to call the Mama Panda. But the mountain was huge.

Harry smiled. “This looks like a job for my Super Voice.”

Harry climbed to the very top of the tallest pine tree.

He took a giant breath. He puffed out his chest.

(LOUD sound)
“HOOO-HOOA-HOOO!

MAMA PANDA!

YOUR BABY IS HERE!”

His voice traveled over the rivers.

It traveled over the snowy peaks.

Far away, Mama Panda heard him.

The Best of Both Worlds

Soon, Mama Panda came running and hugged her fuzzy baby.

She smiled at Harry and gave a grateful nod.

Pepe the Parrot landed on Harry’s shoulder.

Wow, Harry!” said Pepe.

Your loud voice saved the day!

Harry learned a big lesson that day.

Being LOUD is a superpower for emergencies.
But being Quiet is a superpower for friendship.

Now, Harry only roars when it is important. The rest of the time?

He whispers.

(whisper sound)
“Shhh... let’s play.”

🧠 Parent Psychology Note

The "Volume Knob" Game: Children often don't realize how loud they are. Instead of just saying "Be quiet," teach them that their voice has a Volume Knob.

Try This: Ask your child: "Show me your Level 1 (Whisper) voice. Now show me your Level 10 (Harry) voice!" Then say: "Okay, we are inside, so let's use Level 3."

🐼 Animal Fact: Giant Pandas

Where do they live? High in the mountains of central China.

Did you know? Baby pandas are very tiny when they are born—about the size of a stick of butter! They rely on their moms for everything, and moms stay very close to keep them safe.
