A story about learning when to speak... and when to be quiet.
Elka and Orion were two parrots who lived in a tall tree near the edge of a village.
Elka was sweet, calm, and thoughtful.
Orion was clever, quick, and always full of ideas.
Together, they were the perfect pair.
🌞 A Hungry Morning
One bright morning, the sun peeked through the leaves.
Orion flapped his wings and chirped,
“Taey! Taey! Taey!”
Elka looked at him and smiled.
“What is it, Orion?”
“I’m very hungry,” Orion said.
Elka nodded. “Me too. What should we eat today—fruits or veggies?”
Orion’s eyes sparkled. “Let’s eat fruits!”
And off they flew, searching for something tasty.
🍎 The Apple Trouble
Soon, they spotted a house with a beautiful apple tree.
Red apples hung everywhere.
“Wow!” Orion said.
“Red apples! Tasty apples!”
They landed on the tree and began to eat happily.
(crunching sound)
“Crunch… Crunch…”
But suddenly, the house owner noticed them.
“Hey! Shoo! Shoo!”
The parrots flapped away quickly.
They tried another place.
And another.
But everywhere they went, people waved their hands and chased them away.
🤔 Orion’s Idea
Orion slowed down and thought carefully.
“If this keeps happening,” he said,
“we might stay hungry today.”
Elka fluttered beside him.
“You’re right, Orion. Think. Think for both of us.”
They flew higher, searching from the sky.
(wind whooshing)
“Fuuu… Fuuu…”
They looked down at the ground below.
From one place to another, they kept flying.
Then suddenly, they saw it.
A big guava tree.
Big.
Green.
Full of ripe guavas.
🤫 The Quiet Plan
As they flew closer, Orion whispered:
“Elka, this time we must stay quiet.
No ‘Taey! Taey!.’
No talking.”
Elka nodded quickly.
“Okay. Okay.”
They landed softly on the guava tree.
No noise.
No chatter.
Only chewing.
Sweet guavas.
Juicy guavas.
They ate and ate until their tummies were full.
Then, quietly, they flew away.
🌈 A Happy Ending
As they flew back, Elka laughed and chirped:
“Taey! Taey! Taey! Humans are so kind!
Look how many guava trees they plant for everyone!”
Orion smiled and hummed softly.
Soon, they joined their friends, excited to talk about what game to play next.
And that day, Elka and Orion learned something important—
Sometimes, being quiet is the smartest idea of all.
🦜 Did You Know?
Smart Birds:
Parrots are some of the smartest animals in the world! They can solve puzzles and even learn to count.
Super Feet:
Parrot feet work like hands. They have two toes facing forward and two facing backward (called "zygodactyl") to help them hold fruit while they eat!
